M3U playlist not loading: the 7 things to check
Your M3U URL worked yesterday; today it fails silently or loads zero channels. Here are the seven causes, in likelihood order.
An M3U URL that has stopped loading falls into one of seven categories. Check them in this order — the first two cover 80% of cases.
- The URL has rotated. Most IPTV providers change their M3U hostname every 30–90 days to avoid ISP blocks. Log into your provider's customer portal and grab a fresh URL.
- Your ISP is blocking the host. Change device DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 9.9.9.9; if that works, your ISP had a DNS-level block.
- The URL contains characters that need URL-encoding. Special characters in the password (especially
@,#,&) break some players. Ask the provider for a re-issued password with only letters + numbers. - The URL exceeds the player's length limit. Smart IPTV on older Tizen firmware caps URLs at 256 chars. Use the provider's "short URL" option if offered.
- HTTPS vs HTTP mismatch. Some older players (Smart IPTV <2020 builds) don't support HTTPS. Ask the provider for the HTTP variant of the same URL.
- VPN blocked at authentication. Disconnect VPN, load the playlist, then re-enable VPN.
- Account suspended. Contact support.
