IPTV vs streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, etc.)
Netflix is on-demand licensed content. IPTV is live TV over the internet. The differences matter for what you can actually watch.
Netflix, Disney+, Max, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video are streaming services. They license specific shows and movies, produce originals, and deliver them on-demand. IPTV delivers linear live TV channels — the same feeds that are on cable or satellite — plus typically a library of recently-aired episodes.
What you can watch
- Netflix etc.: licensed catalogues. No live sports (except the rare Netflix-licensed event), no live news, no live PPV.
- IPTV: live sports, live news, live PPV, live TV channels from multiple countries simultaneously. Usually thinner on scripted original content.
Licensing
Streaming services pay studios and broadcasters for specific rights in specific regions. That's why Netflix UK has different catalogues than Netflix US. Third-party IPTV providers — especially the ones this site tracks — typically aggregate broadcast feeds without per-region licensing, which is the licensing-status flag we attach to every provider card.
Price
A typical household pays $40–$70/month for 2–3 streaming services. An IPTV subscription is $5–$20/month for access to thousands of channels that would otherwise require cable + sports packages at $120–$180/month. The gap is licensing, not technology.
